While on our travels in Toronto, Canada, after wandering around the city admiring the amount of people with dogs and what a great city/country this would be to do pet photography, I just happened upon the annual Woofstock dog show. At Woofstock I found Illona’s stall for Scruffy Dog Photography. I was almost starstruck as Illona is known as Ontario’s Premier Pet Photographer and I’ve been following and admiring her work for some time now. You can imagine how happy I was, when she invited us out to spend some time with her and her dogs for a little photo session.
We quickly started making plans for another night in Toronto, car hire and re-arranging our plans to make this trip out to Kitchener (about 1.5 hours from Toronto). We had the best afternoon with the scruffies, her two dogs Merrick and Matea, who are both gorgeous and so well trained! If you check out the last photo where Merrick, quite happy, stood up on a high tree branch. We enjoyed lots of scruffy pats and hugs (especially since we were missing Peanut so much) and Illona shared with me how she shoots pets. We got to play around with different lenses, different shooting methods and had a great chin wag about the business of photography and even Canon vs Nikon, followed by a lovely dinner.
It was such a great opportunity for me to spend this time with Scruffy Dog Photography and also just nice to meet the lovely lady behind it all. I really loved Canada, and I would love to go back and see more of it.
…just a dog, hanging out in a tree. 😉 i’ll always remember you saying that, Erin.
it was SUCH a thrill to spend an afternoon and evening with you guys, to meet such a like-mind and energy … and so happy i was able to take you to ‘the spot’ before the rains came.
and if you guys ever do decide to move to Canada, yes! i’m game! you know what i’m talking about … i’ve seriously never stopped thinking about it.
